The problem in the middle east is like a tree. you can try to cut off the leaves, you can even hack off some branches...until you get to the root of the problem however the tree will continue to grow.

If you were forced out of your country with no future & no chance of prosperity would you not strap a bomb to yourself to protect America & future generations...what choice do Palestinians have against the tanks & the choppers that you keep supplying to the Israeli's.

You could have this resolved in too years tops. The problem is there is no will to resolve...what a joke

Look at Iraq, where are the weapons of Mass desturction? we were promised...where is the threat...the threat is only now that there are 200 000 Americans over three whom are dieing by the day...for what...get real.

They wont. Cant. Havent a firkin clue.

We, the world, need the USSR to reappear, or there are no checks and balances for the US.

In less than 10 years, the UN has become a sideshow, the US has made a joke out of the international community.

The only restraint, is the cost to taxpayers. Period.

Im glad Im old...ish, seen a teeny bit of life.

With no counterbalance theres too much potential for the delusional to inherit the earth.

The Florida vote was a sick joke, and look at the mess thats a direct result......Iraq??

We need lots of communist missile submarines cruising around the USA, just to maintain stability on the planet.

Theres no point reasoning with them, only armageddon cuts any ice.

Theres lots of perfectly sensible americans, the problem is, theyre not in power.

Bill Clinton had that 'je ne sais quoi'
with less than $10 billion he neutralised north korea, and had zip major conflicts during his term.
Not bad going for a kid from nowhere, that lived in a stick house.

George on the other hand, is just another clueless idiot that believes whatever he gets from his extremist advisors.

Future generations will pick up the tab thats left behind by this Republican muppet.

Nice analogy....
have to agree with you....

gotta resolve the root causes of terrorism (poverty, inequality, oppression, the palestianian/israeli conflict) because otherwise there are plenty of young kids willing to be terrorists and there will never be an end...

To answer your question: They won´t ever learn. They will bankrupt the US both morally and mentally and fall to ruin.
What happens to countries that aren´t smart enough to connect the dots? They are overrun by tyrants (see present example).

you make me laugh anthony, that is the exact philosphy that will bring your ruin...remember...500 years is but a very small snapshot of time itself...remember the roman empire? People like you are only fixated on themselves & the present...

Thats an old fixation of mine.

No civilisation in history, has survived more than 1000 years.

But the underlying human collective continues.
Only the system disappears.

The bullshiters and politicals burn out, and disappear.

The human race trundles onwards.

The Joker in the pack, is religion.

No empire gave more to its citizens, than the Roman empire, potential or otherwise, but it still collapsed into a heap of shit.

Nowadays, its only known via its piles of rubble.

SportSavant,

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. I don't think Israel would have a problem with the suicide bombers attacking the tanks and helicopters that we readily provide.
icon_rolleyes.gif
But when they go into a coffee shop, disco, etc. that pisses people off. Those people in there most likely have nothing to do with the Israeli military.

When you lose a war, whether you started it or not, you got to pay the piper (Golan Heights, Sinai peninsula, West Bank). Even prior to that, the Palestinians and the West Bank were a part of Jordan and they didn't feel any great need to protest their subjugation to the Jordanians at that time. No, only when the Israeli's took control.

I realize a lot of you guys for whatever reason oppose the U.S. foreign policy. You can do two things: 1. Conquer us and force us to advance your pacifist agenda. 2. Cry like the snot-slinging sons of bitches that won't ever back up their opinions out of fear for their personal safety.

You missed option #3
The USA gets a brain, and thinks for itself.

Israel is surrounded by death and destruction.
One day, it will fit into middle eastern society, and the people that live there will compromise.

But not before the USA develops past the amoeba stage.
That's whats holding things up.

eek,

By that comment, can I assume that you think the U.S. is under the control of Israel? Or some other force, perhaps?

Pakistani Judge Orders Blinding by Acid

Friday December 12, 2003 3:16 PM

By KHALID TANVEER

Associated Press Writer

MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) - A judge has ruled that a Pakistani man convicted of attacking his 17-year-old fiancee with acid be blinded with acid himself, police said Friday.

Mohammed Sajid, 19, poured acid on the face of his fiancee Rabia Bibi on June 24 in Bahawalpur, a city in the eastern Pakistani province of Punjab. His two brothers were also convicted of taking part.

The woman lost both eyes and her face was burned in the attack, which police said followed a minor dispute between the couple.

Judge Afzal Sharif ruled Thursday at a court in Bahawalpur that Sajid and his brothers were guilty of the attack and be jailed for seven years, and that Sajid be blinded by acid, said Rana Riaz, a local police official.

The judge ordered that a doctor perform the punishment publicly at a sports stadium. ``This is an Islamic way of doing justice,'' the judge wrote in his verdict.

Police said the defendant was likely to appeal his conviction and the sentence.

Violence against women, including acid attacks, are common in Pakistan, particularly in rural and tribal regions

Subject: DENNIS MILLER ON "THE SITUATION"

(For those who don't know, Dennis Miller is a comedian who has a show called Dennis Miller Live on HBO. He recently went on a rant about the situation:Ñ)

“A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to all Americans who still don't get it, I now offer you the story of the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all you really need. Don't thank me. I'm a giver. Here we go: The Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Palestinian sounds ancient but is really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no Palestinian then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no Palestinians; then. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the Palestinians, weeping for their deep bond with their lost land and nation. So for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word Palestinian any more to describe these delightful folks, who dance for joy at our deaths until someone points out they're being taped. Instead, let's call them what they are: Arabs who can't Accomplish Anything In Life And Would Rather Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle And Death. I know that's a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How about this, then: Adjacent Jew-Haters.; Okay, so the Adjacent Jew-Haters want their own country. Oops, just one more thing. No, they don't. They could've had their own country any time in the last thirty years, especially two years ago at Camp David. But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and, worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living. That's no fun. No, they want what all the other Jew-Haters in the region want: Israel. They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course -- that's where the real fun is -- but mostly they want Israel. Why? For one thing, trying to destroy Israel - or The Zionist Entity; as their textbooks call it -- for the last fifty years has allowed the rulers of Arab countries to divert the attention of their own people away from the fact that they're the blue-ribbon most illiterate, poorest, and tribally backward on G-d's Earth, and if you've ever been around G-d's Earth, you know that's really saying something. It makes me roll my eyes every time one of our pundits waxes poetic about the great history and culture of the Muslim Mideast. Unless I'm missing something, the Arabs haven't given anything to the world since Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a hell of a lot for that one.

Chew this around and spit it out: Five hundred million Arabs; five million Jews.

Think of all the Arab countries as a football field, and Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it. And now these same folks swear that if Israel gives them half of that pack of matches, everyone will be pals. Really? Wow, what neat news. Hey, but what about the string of wars to obliterate the tiny country and the constant din of rabid blood oaths to drive every Jew into the sea? Oh, that? We were just kidding. My friend Kevin Rooney made a gorgeous point the other day: Just reverse the numbers. Imagine five hundred million Jews and five million Arabs. I was stunned at the simple brilliance of it. Can anyone picture the Jews strapping belts of razor blades and dynamite to themselves? Of course not. Or marshaling every fiber and force at their disposal for generations to drive a tiny Arab State into the sea? Nonsense. Or dancing for joy at the murder of innocents? Impossible. Or spreading and believing horrible lies about the Arabs baking their bread with the blood of children? Disgusting. No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace, the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death. Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that with vital operations in Iraq and others, it's in our interest, as Americans, to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as possible, and, after all, that can't be much harder than stabilizing a roomful of supermodels who've just had their drugs taken away. However, in any big-picture strategy, there's always a danger of losing moral weight. We've already lost some. After September 11 our president told us and the world he was going to root out all terrorists and the countries that supported them. Beautiful. Then the Israelis, after months and months of having the equivalent of an Oklahoma City every week (and then every day) start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint. If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would all very shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done with it and kill everything south of the Mediterranean and east of the Jordan. (Hey, wait a minute, that's actually not such a bad idea . . ..ooh, that is, what a horrible thought, yeah, horrible.)

While I agree with most of what you say I would venture to say that the ancient Egyptian dynastys formed a civilisation that existed for 3,000 years.

I think the tragedy in recent times came in 1967 when there was the opportunity to create a Palestinian state in the West Bank and have Jerusalem declared a heritage site for all humanity under the administrative control of the United Nations.

I don't think there has been an equally good opportunity since and there is certainly no political will to really work toward any solution.
